Colombia’s Hague case shift marks a major diplomatic win for Israel after President-elect Abelardo de la Espriella moved to withdraw his country’s involvement in the case against Israel at the International Court of Justice.
According to Israel’s Foreign Ministry, de la Espriella announced that Colombia will withdraw its intervention in South Africa’s case against Israel at The Hague. The move follows a dramatic change in Colombia’s political direction after years of hostility toward Israel under the outgoing government.
The Tanakh commands, “Justice, justice shall you pursue.” That verse fits this moment because international law should serve truth and justice, not political warfare against the Jewish state.
Colombia Hague Case
De la Espriella, who was elected about a month ago, is considered a clear supporter of Israel. Soon after taking office, he moved to cancel Colombia’s role in the legal campaign against Israel following the war in Gaza.
The shift also comes as Colombia’s incoming government moves to restore relations with Israel. Reports said incoming Colombian officials met with Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar and discussed renewing diplomatic ties, including the appointment of ambassadors and a broader reset in bilateral relations.
For Israel, this matters beyond one legal filing.
The Hague has become one of the central arenas where Israel’s enemies try to isolate the Jewish state, restrict its self-defense, and turn military necessity into criminal accusation. Colombia’s withdrawal weakens that campaign and signals that not every country will follow the anti-Israel line.
A Win For America And Israel

For the United States, Colombia’s pivot matters because Latin America is part of the wider strategic map.
A Colombia that rebuilds ties with Israel and aligns more closely with Washington can strengthen the pro-Western camp in the Americas. That matters at a time when Iran, Russia, and other hostile actors look for influence across the region.
For Israel, the message is even more direct. A country that once joined legal pressure against Israel is now stepping back from that path and reopening the door to cooperation.
That legal front also connects to “ICC Prosecutor Who Pursued Netanyahu Warrants Suspended.” Karim Khan, the ICC prosecutor who sought arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant, has been suspended amid sexual misconduct allegations he denies. The controversy has deepened Israeli concerns about whether international legal institutions treat Israel fairly.
Colombia’s decision therefore arrives at a meaningful time. It pushes back against the idea that Israel must stand alone in every international forum.
Covenant, Justice, And Allied Courage
The United States and Israel share a covenantal understanding before God that gives justice a moral purpose.
Both nations were built on the belief that law must protect the innocent, not reward those who weaponize institutions against free peoples. Both understand that truth matters in the courtroom, in diplomacy, and on the battlefield. America carries a calling to defend liberty under God. Israel carries the ancient calling of Jewish sovereignty, return, and survival in the land promised to the Jewish people.
In this story, those shared values meet in the defense of Israel’s legitimacy.
America has long rejected efforts to use international bodies unfairly against Israel. Israel, meanwhile, must defend its soldiers, leaders, and civilians from legal campaigns that often ignore terrorism, hostage-taking, and the crimes of Hamas.
Colombia’s move does not end the lawfare against Israel. However, it shows that political winds can change, allies can return, and truth can regain ground.
Ultimately, de la Espriella’s decision sends a clear message: Israel is not a criminal state for defending itself against terror. It is a sovereign nation with allies who understand that justice must not become a weapon against the Jewish people.
