Fidan Threatens “Far-Reaching Steps” Over Gaza

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan warned of “far-reaching steps” over Gaza and framed Israel’s regional alliances as a threat to Turkey

Hakan Fidan Israel remarks sharpened the growing tension between Ankara and Jerusalem after Turkey’s foreign minister used a joint press conference with Egypt’s foreign minister to attack Israel’s regional alliances and Gaza policy. Fidan said additional alliances are forming against Turkey, pointing to Israel, Greece, and the Greek-Cypriot administration. He framed their Mediterranean cooperation as a strategic line between Turkey in the north and Egypt in the south.

According to Fidan, the purpose of that alliance is clear, as is the direction in which it leads. He also described Egypt as Turkey’s “natural partner” and said Cairo is reviewing details of the Mecca Agreement. In his view, Egypt may soon become an official partner in that framework.

The Tanakh teaches, “By wise counsel thou shalt make thy war” (Proverbs 24:6). In a region shaped by alliances, pressure campaigns, and competing blocs, wise counsel requires clear judgment. Israel and the United States must recognize which partnerships strengthen stability and which ones increase pressure on the Jewish state.

Hakan Fidan Israel Remarks

Fidan also turned to Gaza and said Turkey expects the United States to pressure Israel over the agreement there. Otherwise, he warned, Turkey, Qatar, and Egypt would take “far-reaching steps” on the issue. He then accused Israel of seeking to expel Palestinians from Gaza and claimed Israel wants, “if possible,” to leave no Palestinians there.

Fidan said Turkey joined the Peace Council with Egypt and other countries to block that alleged plan through diplomacy and peace. He added that the first goal was to stop what he called “genocide,” claiming that Turkey and its partners succeeded “to a certain extent.” Israel rejects the genocide accusation and says its war is against Hamas, the terrorist organization that carried out the October 7 massacre.

Ankara’s Pressure Campaign

Fidan’s remarks matter because Turkey is not a distant observer. Ankara is a NATO member, a major regional power, and a government seeking influence in Gaza, the Mediterranean, and the wider Middle East. That makes the American role especially important, since Washington must manage Gaza diplomacy while balancing relations with Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, Israel, and other regional players.

The warning in “Trump’s Former Intelligence Chief: Turkey Is Not America’s Ally” fits this debate naturally. In that article, Tulsi Gabbard warned that Erdoğan’s Turkey is not America’s ally and argued that U.S. policy toward Ankara could harm Israel, NATO, and regional security. Fidan’s latest comments show why that concern remains serious. A country cannot claim to stabilize the region while threatening “far-reaching steps” against Israel.

Covenant And Clear Alliances

The issue is larger than Gaza. Fidan’s comments reflect Turkey’s broader pressure campaign against Israeli security, Israeli sovereignty, and the Jewish state’s right to defend itself. Washington now faces a direct test: whether U.S. diplomacy will reward states that pressure Israel or demand the standards expected from real allies.

The United States and Israel each carry a covenantal mission before God. America’s covenantal story centers on ordered liberty, moral responsibility, and the defense of free nations. Israel’s covenant is rooted in God’s eternal bond with the Jewish people and the Land of Israel. Those missions are not identical, but they meet when terror, propaganda, and diplomatic pressure target the Jewish state.

Fidan’s comments show why moral clarity matters. Regional diplomacy cannot succeed if it excuses Hamas while placing pressure mainly on Israel. The real test for Washington is whether it can pursue diplomacy without empowering Ankara at Israel’s expense.
