Major drama in American media: reports say Jewish journalist Bari Weiss could gain editorial oversight of CNN if Paramount Skydance completes its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery.

According to Reuters, Weiss would oversee editorial strategy for both CBS News and CNN if the deal goes through.

Weiss, a respected columnist and founder of The Free Press, became editor-in-chief of CBS News after Paramount Skydance acquired her outlet in 2025.

A Pro-Israel Voice

Weiss is known for her clear pro-Israel positions and her public fight against antisemitism.

For many supporters of Israel, her rise inside American media matters. After all, CNN remains one of the world’s most influential news brands.

If the merger closes, two major news organizations would operate under leadership with a far more open pro-Israel orientation.

Behind the move stands David Ellison, the head of Paramount Skydance.

In addition, Ellison is the son of Jewish-American billionaire Larry Ellison, the founder of Oracle. The Ellison family is widely seen as strongly pro-Israel.

After the October 7 massacre, Skydance pledged $1 million to humanitarian relief efforts in Israel and the region.

Meanwhile, Oracle built a major underground cloud data center in Jerusalem. The site serves Israeli defense, government, finance and infrastructure clients.
