This morning (Monday), the IDF Spokesperson announced the tragic loss of Staff Sergeant Major (Res.) Evyatar Ben Yehuda, 31, from Nitzan in the Gaza border area, who was killed during an operational mission in northern Samaria. Four other soldiers, including the commander of Battalion 8211, were injured in the incident, with the battalion commander sustaining serious injuries. The commander was evacuated to a hospital for treatment, and his family has been notified.

An Honored Soldier

Evyatar Ben Yehuda was a highly respected and skilled reservist, serving in Battalion 8211 since October 7. His unwavering dedication to Israel’s security and his ultimate sacrifice exemplifies the courage and commitment of those defending the nation. The mission took place in the Palestinian village of Tammun, a hotspot for armed militants. The IDF has intensified operations in the area to combat the smuggling of weapons and explosives that threaten to destabilize Judea and Samaria.

Tammun holds a significant connection to the history of the Land of Israel, situated along the Tirtza Stream—the route our forefathers took when entering the Promised Land. Not far upstream lies Shechem, the site where God first appeared to Abraham upon entering the land, as described in Genesis 12:6-7: “Abram travelled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem… The Lord appeared to Abram and said, ‘To your offspring I will give this land.’ So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him.” This profound connection reminds us that even amidst modern challenges, the roots of our people remain firmly planted in the divine promise of this land.

Ongoing Investigation

The IDF is currently investigating the incident, the details of which remain under a publication ban. Battalion 8211, under the command of the injured officer, has been actively engaged in multiple operations across the West Bank since the beginning of the war, with a focus on northern Samaria.

The details of the incident remain classified, with a publication ban in place until all affected families have been informed, according to the IDF Spokesperson. Battalion 8211, led by the injured commander, has played a critical role in securing northern Samaria and preventing threats to Israel’s safety.
